Hair grows from follicles in cycle, not continuosly. Hair is formed from a protein known as keratin, it provides structure and strenght to the hair shaft. Hair grows at different speeds and different lenghts. Its composition causes different colours and textures, which influence how long the hair strand grow.

Different Types of Body Hair

The body has different types of hair, incluiding Vellus Hair (that develops on most of a human's body during childhood) and androgenic hair (Body Hair that develops on the human body during and after puberty), each with its different types of cellular construction. Most humans develop longest thickest hair on their scalp and male faces (Beard). These hair will usually grow to several feet before shredding, but many humans develop much longer hair.

Different Types of Hair by Colour

Hair growsa about 1 cm per month on average. Scalp hair grows between 0.6 cm and 3.36 cm per month. The qgrowth rate of scalp hair depends on age, sex and ehtnicity. Thicker hair grows generally faster 11.4 mm per month than thinner hair 7.6 mm per month.

The quantity of hair depends on hair colour (before greying): an average blond- haired person has 1,50,000 hair, a brown-haired person has 1,10,000 and redhead has 90,000. Hair grows till we are alive, growth stops at death.

Hair Related Problem

Alopecia is a hair loss disease that can occur to anyone at any age. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes hair to spontaneously fall out, it may cause bald patches on the scalp or other parts of the body, whereas Universal Alopecia will cause baldness across the entire body even eye brows and eye lashes.

Scalp hair of which 85-90% are in the growth (anagen) phase at any time, which lasts for years, determining hair length. People naturally shed 50-100 hairs daily, and hair growth slows significantly after age 30.
